Saints have grabbed two signings in one day.

Southampton have snapped up former Derby midfielder Lee Holmes on a Bosman free transfer, and he will be joined at St Mary's by Chris Perry.

He became The Rams’ youngest ever player when he appeared at Grimsby on Boxing Day 2002, aged 15. The young winger is the first of incoming manager Jan Poortvliet’s summer signings.

Holmes spent last season on loan at Walsall where he made 19 appearances scoring four goals before returning to Derby who released him. There is little surprise there was a rush for his signature as many feel he can realise his early promise with a fresh start somewhere else.

Southampton have made their second signing of the day in the shape of former Luton defender Chris Perry. The 35-year-old has arrived on a free transfer and it is his second spell at St Mary’s, having previously been on loan last season playing in the last six games and steering The Saints to safety.
