Walking away from St Marys it was hard to believe we won, the fans were subdued and in many cases moaning after another desperate performance.
The fact is….we were lucky. Lucky that Blackpool left their shooting boots behind and also lucky that the ref made a bit of a blunder.
Firstly the ref gave a penalty that was dubious at best, but Jason Euell did the decent thing and let the goalkeeper save it, in the spirit of true fairness.
Then a Blackpool player was fouled as he went past two Saints players before crossing the ball, but instead of playing advantage the ref blew for the foul so having to disallow the goal scored from the cross. The Blackpool players were furious and you could understand why, but it was nice to be on the right end of some poor decisions for a change.
We can only hope that having scraped 3 points (even if we were holding on for dear life against Blackpool), will spur the team onto greater things…..

Davis – 6 – Clean sheet, but the Blackpool forwards didn’t seem to be able to hit the target. Showed more poor deceision making.
Ifil – Not his best game – 6
Skacel – Tried, got to give him that. – 6
Davies – Bit of a game of 2 halves, poor in the first, but improved in the 2nd. 6
Dailly – Will be missed, when he goes back to West ham. 7.
Dyer – some good, some bad, some indifferent. – 6
Surman – man of the match for me, even though he made the odd mistake, so very good passing at times. Played better in the middle, not so good when put on the right later in the game. 7.5
Safri – did ok, but some of his passing, especially back to the keeper was poor 6.
Euell – yet to see him play well for Saints. Adds nothing as far as I can see, gives the ball away and certainly isn’t a winger. Plus missed Penalty – 4
John – scored again, held ball up well at times – 6.5
Wright Philips – more energy than he has showed for a while, but still not the man fo the job - 5
Subs:
Hamill – obviously talented, but tries to hard to show it, rather than do the simple thing, maybe because he gets so little time on the pitch. But today missed a sitter, and gave ball away - 4
Viafara – Struggled to get into the game late on 6
Rasiak – Didn’t get much of a chance as Burley had dyer on the left and Surman on the right, so no chance of any crosses. 5
Manager – Burley – 4 – Why play Euell, why play players out of position? Why leave a very ineffective Wright Philips on the pitch…..why, why….
Referee – 10 – What a star!!!!!....Where would we have been without him!
