Must win game!

It’s only the middle of September and we are already into the “must win” and “6 pointer” clichés.   

In truth there is of course a long way to go, but defeat to fellow strugglers Barnsley would be a hammer blow to the clubs ambitions this season.

The clubs aim of a play off place seems already a unlikely target, but it is important we win these games against our fellow strugglers to ensure we stay in the championship this season.

The Echo reports “Jan’s back trouble”, but I hope this isn’t an excuse before the game  even kick offs.  

It was quite clear at the start of the season we were very weak in numbers at the back. Our defence included just one untried right back, no recognised left backs, a 35 years old veteran and a player who had hardly played for 3 and ½ years.    The club seem intent on bringing in more midfielders, with just the one addition at the back of Jack Cork on loan, so it can hardly be a surprise if we are now short on numbers at the back.
