QPR 4 Saints 1

With Michael Svensson and Wayne Thomas injured, Jan Poortvliet made the strange decision to partner 2 inexperienced defenders at the heart of the defence, leaving Chris Perry on the bench.

It took just 38 seconds for this decision to come back and haunt him as woeful, unorganised defending allowed Blackstock to volley home, completely unmarked.

The defence never looked comfortable from that moment on, and when Lancashire was sent off for a badly mistimed tackle, the game looked as good as over.

Indeed without the superb, man of the match Kelvin Davis, it would have been over as he made save after save to keep Saints in the game.

The defence looked a little better, when Wotton, dropped back to partner Cork, and showed how important some experience in the team is.

To their credit Saints never gave up and some how got their way back into the game with an excellent passing movement, ending in a well taken goal by the impressive Lallana.

That move aside, most of Saints nice football was played in the middle of the pitch and they lacked stability at the back and any sort of cutting edge up front.

Although the 2nd QPR goal was clearly offside (clear to everyone but the linesman that is), in the end QPR ran out easy winners.

The fact that the Man of the match was a goalkeeper who conceded 4 goals tells its own story.

Things do not look good for Saints, as for all their nice passing, the yare failing to be effective enough, and may rue the decision not to bring in some more experienced players instead on adding more youngsters.

More to follow…………..
