Crystal Palace - Home
Del.icio.us!

One of the worse defensive performances in recent Saints history, lead to an average Palace side, thrashing Saints 4-1.
To lose 4 - 1 on the opening day is bad enough, to do it at home makes it worse, and to do it against palace, just makes it an embarrassment.

Saints had as much of the ball, and created as many changes as Palace, but the difference between the two sides was Palace had a defence and Saints didn't. In fairness to Place they picked up on the weakness early and fully exploited it.

All 4 goals were gifted, the first a free header from a corner. The 2nd a comical mix up between goalkeeper, and defence.....a feat they managed to repeat in the 2nd Half for the 3rd and god knows what happened for the 4th!.
The substitution of Clinton Morrison just about summed it up.  he didn't want to leave the pitch, and who can blame him, he may never get a chance to play against such a poor defence again!

Marks out of 10.

Bart - 4 - some real howlers.  While he went on to make a couple of good saves, was never really in command of anything.
Ostlund - 5 - Got forward, but never raised his game above mediocre.
Makin - 5 - Poor display, but was playing out of position.
??? - 4 - Awful debut.  Hardly won a tackle or header all game.
Vignal - 5 Got forward, but was part of an woeful defence.
Viafaria - 6 Not his best game, but should have been put in centre midfield to add some drive and bite.
Wright - 4 - Forgot he was playing at times.
Safri - 6. Not a great debut.  Started well ,ad did some good passes, but gave the ball away a lot towards end as heads dropped.
Surman. 6 - Average game.
Saganoski - 7 - got a goal and worked hard
Rasiask - 7 - Kept going and looked like he would score. Couple of close chances.
